celld and self-hosting
How celld runs Fungi and what self-hosting means.
celld is the Workers-compatible runtime that runs Fungi on operator-managed hosts. It runs the Hub, which handles sign-in and routes requests to your Team’s services. It also runs the services behind Agents and Apps.
Where the work runs
Section titled “Where the work runs”Each Team has its own process, Unix user and network namespace on a shared host kernel. An idle Team has no resident process; its service starts when needed. Hosted Computers run commands in Firecracker microVMs. A microVM is a small virtual machine, with a separate guest kernel.
Cloudflare supplies the public edge, DNS, email, model gateway, images and artifact services. Fungi’s static documentation and marketing sites also run there. Running celld alone does not supply those services or the Hub’s account database.
Self-hosting
Section titled “Self-hosting”Fungi uses a private celld fork. Running it requires access granted by its maintainers and the pinned runtime build. There is no public Fungi celld distribution or public installer. Operating a full Hub also requires its account database and configured edge services.
For Agent work on your own machine, see the Fungi CLI guide. The local client runs without operating a Hub, Team hosts or a celld fleet.
